Athletic Director and Head Coach

Daniel Shwam

Coach Shwam has over 36 years experience in professional and collegiate level baseball. 

Shwam has been at Highland High for 30 years.   He was the head highland baseball coach for 19 years,  the football coach 10 years, assistant baseball coach for 10 years and the athletic director for 10 years.  He is also a teacher at Highland High.

Rolen Yoshinaga

Assistant Coach Rolen has been a youth baseball coach for over ten years and most recently spent five years as an assistant coach at Judge Memorial High School.

Al Garcia


Coach Al has played softball for over 30 years in league play and many sanctioned tournaments. He was inducted into the Utah Softball Hall of Fame in June 2022. He coached baseball at Centennial High School in Las Vegas, Nevada and West High School in Salt Lake City, UT. Coach Al’s teams have won numerous tournaments and most recently in the 2022 season won the Spring World Championship in St. George, UT, Western National Championship in Sacramento, CA, Rocky Mountain Championship in Aurora, CO., and his team “Damage” took a Silver Medal in the Huntsman World Senior Games in St. George, UT. Coach Al has sponsored multiple teams including a Girls 16U fastpitch team, and his Ladies co-ed team won an ISA World Championship. Coach Al has put his whole heart into giving his players the best experience possible and making an impact on their lives. Coach Al owns a Pest Control Business and has been married to his wife Shelly for 27 years and they have three children, Ashley 30 years, JC 25 years and AJ 16 years.

Assistant Coach 

Brody Osborne

Coach Oz was born and raised in San Francisco, California. He moved to Utah right before high school and played baseball from the moment he could walk into college. Coach Oz has taught, trained and coached kids from 8u - 15u. He has been coaching a local travel ball team and a national team for the last 4 years. He has been married to his wife for nearly 10 years and has two kids - Ryder, 10 and Indy, 3.

Topher Scheeler 

Coach Topher Scheeler brings to the Highland Rams over 25 years of baseball expertise, including his tenure as a four-year college starter and four years in professional baseball. Widely regarded as the "baseball philosopher," Topher dedicates himself to exploring the mental aspects of the game, drawing profound connections between the strategies of baseball and the strategies for life. The 2024 season marks an exciting new chapter as Topher embarks on his first year coaching the Highland Rams, where he aims to instill his deep knowledge and philosophical approach to the game in his new team.
